President Bush Wrong on Immigration
Caution: contains story link from CBS News
President Bush has it wrong on immigration. In his speech to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, GA, Bush Defends Immigration Deal. The President is accusing the conservative base of misunderstanding the bill and says about the bill that it, “makes it more likely we can enforce our border and at the same time uphold the great immigrant tradition of the United States of America.”
With all respect to the President this is a slap in the face for everyone that have gone through the process of legal immigration. We currently have immigration laws that are not enforced and a border that appears to be wide open. What I want and what America wants is enforcement of the Immigration laws on the books now. Just recently Rasmussen had a poll that indicated that Just 16% Believe Senate Bill Will Reduce Illegal Immigration.
As usual Washington politicians are going to ram this thing down our throats whether we like it or not. I agree with Peggy Noonan’s assessment in her article in the Wall Street Journal Too Bad - President Bush has torn the conservative coalition asunder.
President Bush is wrong on this one. If he continues to go along with this it is going to be the equivalent of George Bush 41’s breaking the pledge on “read my lips, no new taxes.” I think the Democrats know this. They have President Bush right where they want him.
